【国際教育部】American Embassy Event　～駐日米国大使、中京大中京をご訪問！～

On Tuesday the 16th April Chukyo High School had the great privilege to host the Ambassador from the United States of America to Japan, Mr. Rahm Emanuel, as well as the Nagoya Principal Consulate Officer Mr. Matthew Cenzer.
Mr. Emanuel has worked directly with both President Clinton and President Obama as well as being the Mayor of Chicago. He has been Ambassador to Japan for around 2 years.

The event took place in a "Town Hall" style. 29 students from the 2nd and 3rd grade International Course took part in the event. Chukyo students asked many interesting questions such as, "What do you think about the relationship between Japan and the United States?" "What do you think is necessary that exists in the US, but not in Japan?" Mr. Emanuel answered our questions in great depth and with great enthusiasm. He also asked our students many questions. He was very impressed with both the school's academic and sporting achievements.

Then the students and the Ambassador enjoyed eating lunch together. During lunch the topics were more about school life and experiences, rather than the more serious topics from before.
While leaving the Ambassador said what wonderful students we have here and congratulated our school. As for the Chukyo students they represented themselves and the school to the highest standards, as always. They really enjoyed this experience and the whole event was conducted in English only.
Through this event we have played our small part in building the strong relationship between our 2 countries.

　4月16日（火）、駐日米国大使のラーム・エマニュエル氏が本校に来校されました！！数年前から在名古屋米国領事館首席領事のマシュー・センザー氏が本校国際コースに足を運んで積極的に交流をしてくださっていましたが、その際の本校生徒の様子が目に留まり、今回エマニュエル大使を本校にお迎えすることが出来ました。
　エマニュエル大使は、シカゴ市長としてクリントン元大統領やオバマ元大統領など政界トップの方とも仕事をされたことのある方で、2年前から駐日米国大使として日本中を飛び回り、日本全国の方々との交流を大切にしていらっしゃいます。本校の生徒たちと交流するために、忙しい公務の合間を縫って光栄なことに本校に足を運んでくださいました。

　「タウンホールミーティング」と称した今回のイベントは、国際コース2・3年生の希望者29名が参加し、エマニュエル大使と交流しました。国際コースの生徒たちからは「日本とアメリカの関係についてどう思われますか？」「アメリカにあって、日本にはないものは何ですか？」という質問から、「エマニュエル大使は高校時代はどのように過ごしていましたか？」という質問など、多岐にわたりました。どの質問にもエマニュエル大使は丁寧に、そして熱意をもって答えてくださり、本校生徒に対しても積極的に質問してくださいました。イベント後には、一緒にランチを楽しみました！ランチタイムには、アカデミックな質問ではなく、学校生活や大使自身の経験などについてたくさん話をしてくださり、国際コースの生徒たちも笑顔で一緒に話をしながらお昼ご飯を食べていました。また、参加した生徒たちから、鉄道大好きなエマニュエル大使へのプレゼントと花束の贈り物に、エマニュエル大使も喜んでくださいました。

　エマニュエル大使も本校生徒の英語力の高さやスポーツ界での活躍、そして生徒たちの活気あふれる姿に大変感銘を受け、本校の今後の発展と活躍を祈願してくださいました。また、今回すべて英語で（通訳は一切なしで）タウンホールミーティングが行われましたが、国際コースの生徒たちも非常に楽しく過ごすことが出来たようです。

　今回のイベントが今後の日米の懸け橋となる小さな手助けになりますように！
　エマニュエル大使のように、これからも世界で羽ばたけ！中京生！
